A friend of ours says that Shana Hiatt's popularity has nothing to do with her abilities or good looks. He contends that any attractive woman could have hosted the World Poker Tour during those 1st three seasons and been just as popular. We disagree. While we'll admit that the show is one of the reasons Hiatt has become so popular, but we also think that Shana Hiatt is also one of the reasons that the World Poker Tour is so successful. The target demographic for poker is young males. Appealing to the prurient interests of this demographic in order to drive more viewers is just good marketing and logic. It took more than just a pretty face and a great figure to be so successful as the hostess of the World Poker Tour. Hiatt had to be comfortable around poker players, and more importantly, she had to be able to make these poker players comfortable enough to talk on the show. When the World Poker Tour launched, there was not a lot of televised poker, and many of these poker player might not have known how to act on a tv show. Shana was there to help them out. She's not just attractive and sexy. She's comfortable with poker players and knows enough about poker to communicate with them on camera. She was the best World Poker Tour hostess to date, and the show misses her. But there is always Poker After Dark. |
